چکیده

Spatially localized deformation components are very useful for shape analysis and synthesis in 3D geometry processing. Several methods have recently been developed, with an aim to extract intuitive and interpretable deformation components. However, these techniques suffer from fundamental limitations especially for meshes with noise or large-scale deformations, and may not always be able to identify important deformation components. In this paper we propose a novel mesh-based autoencoder architecture that is able to cope with meshes with irregular topology. We introduce sparse regularization in this framework, which along with convolutional operations, helps localize deformations. Our framework is capable of extracting localized deformation components from mesh data sets with large-scale deformations and is robust to noise. It also provides a nonlinear approach to reconstruction of meshes using the extracted basis, which is more effective than the current linear combination approach. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both qualitative and quantitative evaluations.

Three Dimensional Modeling of Slip Surfaces in Geomaterials

A three-dimensional finite element implementation of a simple nonassociative Drucker-Prager plasticity model with strong discontinuity mode of localized deformation is formulated for small deformations. A strong discontinuity mode of localized deformation represents slip along a surface of zero measure, whereas a weak discontinuity mode of localized deformation represents shear within a band of...

Procrustean statistical inference of deformations

A two step method has been devised for the statistical inference of deformation changes. In the first step of this method and based on Procrustes analysis of deformation tensors, the significance of the change in a time or space series of deformation tensors is statistically analyzed. In the second step significant change(s) in deformations are localized. In other words, they are assigned to ce...

Viscoplastic Regularization of Local Damage Models: A Latent Solution

Local damage models are known to produce pathological mesh dependence in finite element simulations. The solution is to either use a regularization technique or to adopt a non-local damage model. Viscoplasticity is one technique which can regularize the mesh dependence of local damage model by incorporating a physical phenomenon in the constitutive model i.e. rate effects. A detailed numerical ...

Physics-based shape deformations for medical image analysis

Powerful, flexible shape models of anatomical structures are required for robust, automatic analysis of medical images. In this paper we investigate a physics-based shape representation and deformation method in an effort to meet these requirements. Using a medial-based springmass mesh model, shape deformations are produced via the application of external forces or internal spring actuation. Th...

Direct editing on hexahedral mesh through dual operations

The finite element mesh regeneration, which is usually required during the design model verification process, is time consuming. Mesh editing is a kind of efficient mesh regeneration technique. In this paper, a direct editing method for hexahedral mesh is proposed to achieve high quality and adaptive hexahedral mesh regeneration. After the user applies direct editing on the CAD model, effective...
